Where the Subaru WRX engine is listed
We found priced Subaru WRX engine listings at 638 salvage yards across 48 states. California supplies the most, with 369 listings (10% of the total) from 54 yards. Location matters: yards in Washington ask a median $3,799, while Pennsylvania yards ask $4,968, 31% more for the same part. Shipping usually costs less than that gap for smaller parts, so it can pay to buy out of state.

Market analysis
How much does a used Subaru WRX engine cost?
Asking prices for a used Subaru WRX engine are unusually spread out: the top listing asks about 4 times what the cheapest does, so which unit you pick matters more than the median. Condition matters: grade-A units (lowest mileage, best condition) carry roughly a 17% premium over grade-B stock, with grade-A medians at $5,125.
Model year matters too: 2023 units carry the lowest median at $4,357, while 2025 tops the table at $6,142. Parts from 2022–2024 are interchangeable, so if the 2023 fits your vehicle, it offers the best value across 3 compatible years.
Against comparable vehicles, the Subaru WRX sits 105% above the Hyundai Elantra ($2,475), 541% above the Honda Civic ($792), and 137% above the Toyota RAV4 ($2,137) for the same part. The “similar vehicles” cards below open each comparison guide.
Buying a used engine: what to check
- Ask for a compression or leak-down test result. Reputable yards test engines before sale.
- Under 100K miles is the sweet spot for a used engine; insist on documented donor mileage.
- Confirm what's included: manifolds, sensors, and accessories vary by yard and change the real price.
- Match the engine code exactly. The same model year can ship with multiple displacements.
- Budget for new gaskets, seals, and fluids on installation; they're cheap insurance on a used engine.
